Overview
Sequential Naming allows you to automatically assign a unique, numbered identifier to every case that comes into AllVoices. Once enabled, each new case receives a name built from your chosen format plus an auto-incrementing number — so your team always has a consistent, traceable reference for every report.
How to Enable Sequential Naming
Navigate to Settings → Train Vera (the "Tell Vera How You Name Cases" panel).
Step 1: Turn on the feature
Check the Add Sequential Naming toggle. When the checkbox is filled, the feature is active and will apply to all new cases going forward.
Step 2: Set your starting number
Enter a number in the Starting number field. This is the first number Vera will assign. Each subsequent case increments from there automatically.
Example: If you enter 1, your cases will be numbered 1, 2, 3 … If you enter 100, they start at 100, 101, 102 …
Step 3: Add a name format (optional)
Use the text box to define a naming pattern. The sequential number will append to the end of whatever format you enter here.
For example as a starting point:
year-month-type of issue-initials of the Claim Raised Against employee
Applying that pattern, a case would be named:
2025-12-Discrimination-MK-1
Step 4: Save
Click Save to apply your settings. All new cases will immediately begin using the updated naming format.
Naming Format Tips
You can customize the text box to match your organization's conventions. A few examples:
| Format entered | Starting number | Resulting case name |
| (blank) | 1 | 1, 2, 3 … |
| CASE | 100 | CASE100, CASE101 … |
| 2025-HR | 1 | 2025-HR1, 2025-HR2 … |
| 2025-12-Harassment-JD | 1 | 2025-12-Harassment-JD1, 2025-12-Harassment-JD2 … |
The number always lands at the end — you control everything before it.
Things to Know
- Existing cases are not renamed. Sequential naming only applies to cases created after you save the setting.
- The counter never resets automatically. If you update the starting number later, Vera will resume from the new value — be mindful of potential gaps or duplicates if you adjust this after cases have already been created.
- The format is freeform text. Vera does not validate the pattern, so double-check spelling and separators before saving.
- Numbers append directly. There is no automatic separator between your format text and the number. If you want a dash before the number (e.g., CASE-1), end your format text with a hyphen: CASE-.
- Deleting a case: If a case is deleted it will not reset and the next case will count the deleted case in sequential order
